Want to know how to design a beautiful living space from Kmart?

Well it’s my first blog for 2021, and what a great way to start by answering a topic you’d like to know more about.

We all know Kmart stocks almost everything these days, and it’s often a place many of us visit numerous times a month, but have you checked out their home décor range?

For me I find myself quickly overwhelmed with the vast amount of homeware products in Kmart, and often wish someone would just direct me to the nicest items in the store! That’s where I come in if you can relate to the following:

  • Do you have a small budget?

  • Are you in the process of saving for some investment pieces for your home?

  • Are you setting up a rental, or your first home perhaps?

If you answered yes to any of these, then this blog post is for you!

Read on to discover my top Kmart picks to design a beautiful living space quickly and affordably.

Let’s start by looking at my top furniture picks for a stylish living space:

Furniture

Chairs

Upholstered Timber Chair - A basic grey chair with timber frame that will work well with a sofa from a different range (remember to mix and match your choices for interest and individuality).

Rattan Look Chair - Natural - A lovely ‘rattan look’ chair from Kmart’s outdoor range. Don’t forget to consider outdoor options for your living space, you can often find hidden gems (this chair offers a practical and hardwearing occasional chair that brings so much texture to your space).

Sofas

River Outdoor Double Lounge Chair - An outdoor double sofa in black. The lack of arms lends this sofa to a relaxed, modern vibe. I like the way it provides a solid backdrop to any cushions you might choose.

Harrison 3 seater Sofa - A square shaped grey upholstered sofa. This sofa will give you plenty of seating space, and the cute inset timber legs work well for small spaces (chunky legs can make the space feel smaller).

Side tables

Set of 2 Oak Look Tables - Yes this is a oak-look side table duo, but as long as you don’t spill liquids or scratch them they should bring warmth, interest and lovely curves to soften your squarer furniture choices.

Metal Tray Table - This basic white power coated side table is versatile to use as a side table, or to be pulled up to a coffee table for extra space. This nice bright white will bring freshness to your living space.

Metal Short Stool - Olive - Greens are all the go at the moment, especially this gorgeous olive tone. This metal finish brings a thoughtful contrast when sitting next to your fabric sofa.

Coffee tables

Thorne Coffee Table - Here’s the coffee table in the same range as the entertainment unit. It comes in blonde and black and I particularly like the slim second shelf which makes it perfect for book storage.

Noir Coffee Table - Got to love the curves! This pretty black coffee table ticks a lot of boxes with it’s geometric base, thin edge and it’s colour will ground any space perfectly.

Entertainment Unit

Thorne Entertainment Unit - A symmetrical, blonde timber look entertainment unit. I like this option as it offers open and closed storage.

Here’s my cushions, throws and book picks for a stylish living space:

Cushions, Throws & Books:

Tully Cushion - This textured mustard cushion in it’s rectangular shape is a great affordable pick.

Ezra Cushion - Black - Here is an interesting monochromatic pattern that will be easy to dress up or down in your living space.

Shepard Cushion - Olive - A basic olive green cushion (that actually has a ruffled texture that is hard to capture online) makes a lovely base to the other patterned picks.

Kira Cushion - Grey - Can you ever tire of a linen look grey cushion? I don’t think so, hence why it made it to my list!

All About You - Book - A beautiful book with a gorgeous cover, perfect for your coffee table.

Home by Natural Harry by Harriet Birrell - Book - A bright and interesting cover that would freshen up your living space, with a topic that would interest most readers.

Simply Living Well: A Guide to Creating a Natural, Low-Waste Home by Julia Watkins - Book - Quite the Country Style cover that would be a great choice for your coffee table collection.

Adena Throw - Latte - A perfectly cosy choice with a delicious brown tones!

Goldie Throw - These colours are so uplifting with a traditional plaid pattern.

Lyla Throw - Olive - Again the olive tones make this rug an easy choice for affordable styling.

Ready for my rug and cosy seating Kmart choices?

Rugs & Cosy seating:

Diamond Shaggy Rug Large - This simple diamond shaped rug brings depth under foot and provides a neutral base that won’t overpower your space.

Popcorn Wool Blend Rug - I love this loop style rug in a mid tone grey. It has so much texture and will handle any spill/food stains like a pro!

Chunky Woven Wool Blend Rug - Large - This muted rug is quite beautiful in it’s colours and pattern. Being a wool blend makes it more durable and easier to keep clean.

Fringe Ottoman - White - This neutral ottoman will look it’s place in most living space schemes and is perfect for extra seating.

Woven Ottoman - This smaller ottoman brings interest with it’s subtle chevron patterning and would be perfect for kids to use.

Tan Bean Bag - Adding some tan to a living space is always a good thing and a bean bag is the ultimate cosy choice.

Beautiful lighting and basket options…

Lighting & Baskets:

Large Black Stripe Basket with Handles - You cannot go wrong with this baskets! It brings a texture overload (in a good way), and so practical for cushion and throw storage.

Large Natural And Grey Stripe Basket With Handles - Go for this basket if you’re looking for more of a muted option, and wanting to bring out the brown undertones in your other choices.

Ceramic Base Table Lamp - Taupe - My favourite for the round base and textured ceramic pattern. With a larger white shade, the disproportion makes for a beautiful piece.

Textured Base Table Lamp - This lamp is a winner if you’re looking for a more sculptural option.

Rattan Table Lamp - Here’s a classic rattan based lamp that works wonderfully if you don’t overuse rattan in your other pieces.

Ceramic Base Lamp - I love ceramic based lamps! They are such an effective way to bring in the smooth, glossy ceramic element into your space (this helps to balance out all the fabrics and rough finishes).

Clip On Rattan Shade Pendant - Natural - This has to be my favourite for a pendant shade option. I love everything about it, and so easy to clip over your ceiling light.

Last but not least, let’s hear it for all the accessories!

Accessories:

Kookaburra Framed Print - A simple black and white print with an oak look frame is such a fool proof option when it comes to art.

Marble Trinket Box - A easy way to bring in a small amount of stone into your scheme.

Wood Look Wall Clock - This clock is a gorgeous green/grey and the white hands bring a refreshing contrast.

Artificial Mini Glazed Planter - The blue/charcoal base of this artificial pot plant with its ombre look is a nice addition if you’re looking for a small planter option.

Large Textured Vase - I love the lines on this vase, they bring a sense of texture and balance to other blocks of colour you might add to your living space.

Arch Mirror - This is such an affordable way to bring in a popular shape being used in interiors at the moment - arches!

Rectangular Tray - This tray could be used on a coffee table, entertainment unit or side table in your living space. Use to it to group objects together or to store magazines and books.

Dipped Vase - This is interesting vase that could be used for flowers or simply as a sculptural piece. Group vases and vessels like this in odd numbers within your living space.

Heavy Glass Vase - A basic glass vase will always work for your floral arrangements.

Indulge Soy Blend Fragrant Candle - Large - I love the brown tone of this glass candle, and an accessory like this is such a simple way to bring these darker hues into your scheme.

Oak Look Round Mirror - If you’re looking to place a mirror in your living space, this round mirror is a great choice. You could group it with some art pieces for use on a larger wall.

How the Kmart living space comes together!

This is how I would put my Kmart sourced living space together. Using a mix of textures, materials and tones helps create a thoughtful and quite lovely room. The quality of these pieces won’t stand the test of time, but for some of you it’s where you’re at for this stage in your life - and I get that!

My hope is that this is a useful guide to show you what a designer would pick when it comes to decor at Kmart. I hope this shows you that when you choose pieces carefully, considering your space as a whole, you can create beautiful space at an affordable price point!
